Project update 20 of 20

Shipping & Production News

by Jacqueline L

Hello again!

It’s been a little while since our last update! Most of our time over the past month has been split, with support work and other obligations taking up the bulk of our time. However, assembly of our second production batch is still continuing at a slow and steady pace.

Next Wave of Shipments

At time of writing, we have about three quarters of our next shipment to Mouser prepared, with the remaining units on pace to be ready by the end of May. This is a little slower than our previous estimate, owing mostly to us having less time available to spend on assembly than we’d anticipated. We apologise for this continued delay; making a product on this scale with such a small team is a process filled with surprises.

We expect to make our next shipment by the end of the month, which puts the next wave of Tangara packages getting sent out at around mid-June, after shipping and warehouse processing time. The shipment after that will be a little smaller, as it’s the last one of this batch, but should come about two months afterwards, at our current pace.

Future Production Batches

At the pace we’ve been selling pre-orders, we have very nearly completely sold out of our second production batch. This is great news, as it means there’s more than enough demand for us to proceed with a third round of production. However, the situation is not without its challenges.

We have a small list of production changes we want to make before proceeding to the next batch, with the aim of lowering our production costs whilst also reducing our defect rate and making assembly easier. Ideally, we would’ve liked to do this work in amongst assembly, but a lack of available bandwidth has meant this hasn’t happened. So instead, we’ll need to work on these changes in the back half of this year. This means there will be a fairly substantial gap in time between our second and third production batches.

We’re still discussing amongst ourselves the specifics of the improvements we want to make, as well as working on a timeline for a third batch that is achievable, but have nothing concrete to share yet.
